Like the fi rst town hall, opened with a grand ball in 1883, members of Heritage Acton hope the refurbished building will also be a hub for this community, like the fi rst building was for over 80 years. At one time, the main fl oor of the Willow Street building housed the police station and jail, the council chambers, a library and a practice space for the Acton Citizens Band. The upstairs audi- torium was busy with dances, meetings, concerts, amateur dramatics, guest speakers, minstrel shows and fundraisers. Heritage Acton bought the building from the Town for a dollar in 1977 the Town was going to tear it down to make way for fi re- fi ghter parking and in 1997, Heritage Acton purchased the attached fi re hall paving the way for restoration of the stage that had been bricked in to allow an expansion to the fi re hall. With the help of grants from various levels of government and community fundraisers, extensive renovations have been made, restoring the faded building to its former glory. Heritage Acton invites the community to Saturdays festivities that kick off at 2:30 p.m. with dancers, music, acknowledgement of Heritage Actons mem- bers past and present and refreshments. SCOUTREE VOLUNTEERS: Acton Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and their parents helped plant a variety of 4,000 trees at Dufferin quarry on Saturday. It was the 10th year that members of the Acton Scout- ing movement were involved with Scouts Canadas Scoutree project. Submitted photo Incriminating garbage collected by volunteers.
