Photo by Liesa Kortmann Rep hockey roundup Strong defence sparks Novice AEs to upset victory Local resident Andy Bathgate remains a member of the Georgetown Jr. A Raiders for now, although the highly regarded prospect has been moonlighting with another junior hockey team during the holidays. The 16-year-old Bathgate opted last week to sign with the Ontario Hockey Leagues Belleville Bulls the team that drafted him in the third round of the 2007 Priority Selection waiving a scholarship commitment to Northeastern University in Boston beginning in September 2009. With eight goals and 18 assists in 26 games with the Raiders in his rookie year, the 6-foot-1, 175-pounder had planned to play at home in George- town through the 2008-09 season before attending Northeastern, but Bulls general man- ager George Burn- ett has persisted in trying to acquire Bathgates services since the OHL draft. Andy is an outstanding skater and possesses a tremendous skill set that will make a great addition to the Bulls organization in both the short and long term, Burnett said in a press release. Bathgate, who couldnt be reached for comment Monday, suited up for Belleville on Friday in a 4-3 loss at Ottawa and a 6-2 home victory against the Erie Otters on Saturday, and was held pointless in both contests. He will return to the Raiders for the remainder of their regular season and playoffs and then rejoin the Bulls, presumably for all of next year as well. Bellevilles 2007 first-round pick, Tyler Randell, was a teammate of Bathgates with the Brampton midget AAA Battalion in 2006-07.
