Acton/Georgetown, Friday, January 11, 2008 15 EatRight Ontario Paid for by the Government of Ontarioontario.ca/eatright Call 1-877-510-510-2 and talk to a Registered Dietitian for free. It s nice to see everyone back enjoying the routine of the many dif- ferent weekly programs offered at the Acton Seniors Centre. There are many special events planned for January, starting with the Birthday Tea on Tuesday, Jan. 15 at 2 p.m. This is to celebrate members born in December and January. The next day is the New Members Luncheon at 12:30 p.m. New members should have received a phone call inviting them to this event and the January Social dinner will be a potluck dinner on Thursday, Jan. 17 at 6 p.m. An all-time favourite will be entertaining us again this year The Gang from the Hill so come pre- pared to sing some of our old time favourite songs. If you are interested in the potluck dinner please sign up early as there is a limited amount of space. We wouldnt like you to be disappointed. The next Evening Euchre will be at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 16. If exercise and keeping healthy was one of your New Year resolutions, then the Wednesday morning exercise class- es would be a great start. We have a gentle exercise at 9:15 a.m. followed by a more strenuous class at 10:30 a.m. Of course, the Friday afternoon hikes are a great way of getting exercise and enjoying the countryside around Halton Hills. The Town offers a Tai Chi exercise class every Monday morning and there is also swimming at the Acton Pool. The Acton Arena has shinny for adults and preschool children several mornings a week, so enjoy spending time with the grandchildren and build- ing memories for them, or enjoy playing seniors shinny on Friday mornings and adult shinny every weekday morning at noon. There is a discounted price on Town programs for the members of the Seniors Centre. I am sure many will remember Brigitte Galton, one of our longtime members who passed away in December after a courageous battle with cancer. I am sure many of you remember her playing cards and going on the Casino trips. Our thoughts are with her hus- band Patrick and her family at this time. One happy member is Martha Couture. She was the winner of the 50/50 just before Christmas and I am sure the $260 will go a long way towards paying some of the bills after Christmas. I met her at the front desk the day the Centre opened after the Christmas Break, and she was all smiles. JULIE CONROY Acton Seniors Centre Special events on at Acton Seniors Centre next week
