As well, questions surrounded the increase of $21,761 in registration revenue in the 2007 GBA budget from the previous year that was left unexplained during the October AGM due to the absence of the former treasurer, Pam Owens, who was unable to attend that evening due to work commitments. Peddie could not account for the revenue increase at the AGM, yet the budget was still voted on and approved. At last weeks meeting, Owens explained that most of that extra revenue was actually an allowance for the GBAs rep players, who paid an additional $115 in registration that could be spent on uniforms or equipment at the Sports Unlimited store location in Georgetown. Only one parent requested a full refund for the uniform allowance and the GBAs year-end report listed a surplus of $7,677 for its 2007 financial standing. Some executive members were upset that theyve had their reputations damaged because of the allegations and are worried that the asso- ciations annual sponsorship drive may also suffer, perhaps resulting in an increase in regis- tration fees. You can see the dilemma we have, Byckowski added, noting that executive mem- bers and their families also coached and umpired through the season. This is not rep versus house league thing. Its a house league problem and were doing the best we can with the few people that we have. There are 800 possible volunteers for the house league and we did get some support from them last year, but more is needed. Ian Stubberfield, the GBAs director of oper- ations, said that once leadership positions in the house league are established, it will be pos- sible in the coming months to delegate some of the tasks involved to new volunteers. For more information about becoming involved in a variety of capacities, call the Georgetown Baseball Association office at 905- 877-3748.
