Its cold! Somebody told me what can you expect? Its January in Canada. Good news! Only two months until spring. At present the name of the newsletter for Georgetown Seniors is The Hilltops. This name was chosen about 11 years ago when the Centre was opened. In fact, there was a ballot containing three suggested names, each containing the word hills; the rea- son being is that Georgetown is built on seven hills. You cannot get in or out of town without going up or down a hill. The mem- bers voted on the ballot and the winner was The Hilltops. Just thought you might like this bit of trivia. Sometimes we forget or, just dont know, where names came from. On Thursday, Jan. 10, Copper County Foods representatives were at the Centre to give out samples to promote their frozen food industry. They produce high quality, nutritionally balanced, frozen meals, soups, and desserts delivered directly to the home including menus for special diets. Personally I found it quite tasty and have already received my first order. Besides the great taste, I was impressed with the fact that each meal is graded as to diabetic, low fat, low calorie, low sodium and vegetarian. If you missed this taste test, there are flyers and order forms at the Centre. I have been told they will be back in May to do a com- plete lunch for us. Watch for the date and time to be advertised. Our next important event is the Annual General Meeting (AGM) following lunch on Thursday, Feb. 14. This meeting is important to the members, please try to attend. Six new board members are needed to complete the required num- ber of board members. If you are interested in becoming one of the six, sign up at the Front Desk or see Clarence Gough or George Chadwick. Nominations will also be accepted from the floor the day of the AGM. Our Co-ordinator, Kristen Bradley, is expecting her second child and will be on maternity leave for a year. Her position has been advertised and interviews will begin on Feb. 5. We will miss her for the year and wish her a healthy bundle of joy. The Parkinson Support Group meets at the Centre on Thursday, January 31 at 7:30 p.m. This months speaker is a pharmacist from Youngs Pharmacy. For more information you can contact Marion Faulkner at 905-877-5858. S.A.L.T. (Seniors and Law enforcement Together) is holding a seminar at the Centre regarding Identity Theft on Wednesday, January 30 at 10:30 a.m. This will be a part of Mingle and Chat. We are hearing a great deal about identity theft these days. You might want to attend to learn what it is and how easily it can happen if we are not aware. Artists, you will be able to come to a Watercolour Workshop on Wednesday Feb. 6, 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The featured artist is Ken MacFarlane. Space is limited. Please apply at the Front Desk at the Centre. Materials list available on payment. Tickets for the Fundraiser Dinner and Dance on Saturday, March 8 are available at Front Desk. It is a catered roast beef dinner with all the trimmings. Get your ticket early. Dont be left out! In our library you can now get talking books on CDs as well as on tapes. Drop in and browse for a while. These cold days are great for dropping into the Centre for a nice hot cup of coffee. The pot is always full. See you there. FLORENCE RIEHL Georgetown Seniors Centre
