Having approved the Green Plan is not the end of the process, agreed Bonnette. This will be a working, living document... this is only the first step; its not the end, its just the beginning. The Green Plan has 58 rec- ommendations, based on the PAREE approach: Practical, Affordable, Realistic, Enforceable, and Educational. Recommendations include: Work with students to imple- ment the Eco Mentor Program in all Halton Hills schools in order to raise awareness among school chil- dren. Establish a partnership between school boards and Halton Hills Hydro in order to create a pilot pro- ject for a battery-hybrid school bus Develop a series of Lunch and Learn sessions with an environmen- tal focus for the benefit of local busi- ness. Ask businesses and groups to submit their ideas and initiatives to create an inventory which others can model Expand the Farmers Market to a year-round status to promote local food production and purchase Continue to advocate for all day GO Transit service for Georgetown, restoration of the GO Transit service to Acton and increase GO Transit capacity to and from Guelph Explore Six Corn Row Snow Fencing program that has the potential to reduce salt application and snow plowing on roads. Establish depots for haz- ardous or gardening waste materials, so residents do not have drive to the Milton waste management site. Create policies to urge energy efficiency appliances, light fixtures, and water saving devices in new home construction and renovations. Create a full-time Environmen- tal Co-ordinator position. Establish cash incentives for Halton Hills and Halton Hills Hydro staff who purchased hybrid vehicles or who request and implement the recommendations of energy audits. Councillor Joan Robson called the Green Plan an easy read that addresses every citizen personally. All members of the community are urged to read the Green Plan, www.haltonhi l ls .ca/greenplan, (copies are also available at the Civic Centre) and respond with both com- ments and actions before January 31 to Damian Szybalski, greenplan@hal- tonhills.ca or at 905-873-2601 ext. 2289. Town Green Plan outlines 58 PAREE recommendations Continued from pg. 1 RICK BONNETTE CUPE Local #73 solidly backed their union leadership in an unanimous vote yesterday after- noon (Thursday) to move to conciliation in their contract talks with the Town of Halton Hills. CUPE Local #73 represents about 42 Town of Halton Hills outside employees, such as snowplow drivers, and roads and parks workers, plus facility attendants at the various arenas and commnunity centres. Last week, negotiations between the union and the Town stalled over wages and benefit issues. The two sides will meet with a provincially- appointed conciliator, and if that is unsuccessful, the union could be a strike position. Town workers vote 100 per cent for contract conciliation
