Annual Campaign nears the half-million mark Thanks to a generous community that cares deeply about the quality of healthcare provided at Georgetown Hospital, the Foundation has received unprecedented support in our 2007/08 fiscal year. With a growing community, a new obstetrician on staff and aging equipment in both obstetrics and our surgical departments, there is a significant gap between the equipment the Hospital has and what is needed to provide the best care. Our goal is to raise $500,000 and we have now received $470,000 -- just $30,000 shy of our target. Thanks to donations from almost 1,500 individuals, businesses, service clubs, organizations and families in our community, we have been able to purchase much-needed medical equipment such as: Anesthetic Gas Machines Surgical Drills Infant Resuscitation Platform Phototherapy Lights Infant Incubator On behalf of the tens of thousands of people who will benefit from these purchases, the Foundation offers its sincere gratitude to all of our generous donors. We couldn't do it without you! The 2007 Annual Christmas Ball raised more than $18,000 for Georgetown Hospital. Thank you to everyone who came out to North Halton Golf & Country Club on December 1st to kick off the holiday season in style. And special thanks to event organizers Barbara Phipps, Shelley Phipps and Graeme Goebelle. Your efforts have once again paid off in better healthcare for your community. Foundation sees increased number of gifts of stock and mutual funds In 2007 Georgetown Hospital Foundation saw an increase in the number of donors who chose to support the Hospital by way of a gift of appreciated securities. They wisely took advantage of a recent change to the income tax act that eliminates taxable capital gains on stocks or mutual funds when they are transferred as a gift to a registered charity. A generous donation, no capital gains tax, and they still received a tax receipt for the full value of their donation, making for a real win-win-win situation!
