Founded in Georgetown in 1928 by William Freeman Bradley, the Dominion Seed House quickly became one of the largest and most renowned mail-order seed businesses in Canada. Its building, a mock-Tudor manor complete with a moat, became a sym- bol to gardeners in our region and well beyond. At its peak, the Dominion Seed House catalogue offered more than 1,200 varieties of seeds and bulbs, and customers hailed from countries all around the world. The first 50 visitors to arrive at the Museums Heritage Day celebrations will receive a packet of clarkia seeds, courtesy of the Dominion Seed House. Clarkia seeds were sold in Georgetown years ago. The plant flowers from June to September. There is no charge to attend the Halton Region Museums Heritage Day celebrations, and parking is also free. From 2 to 2:45 p.m., visitors will enjoy a fireside presentation. A behind-the- scenes tour and light refreshments will follow. The public is invited to bring mementos or share memories of the Dominion Seed House. The Halton Region Museum is located inside Kelso Conservation Area in Milton at the base of the Glen Eden Ski Hills.
