DEATHS IN MEMORIAM IN MEMORIAM MOVING SALE 20 ProfessionalOrganizer GIFFIN, (Glave), Jane Marie Our hero who inspired us for 2 years with her fierce deter- mination and undying optimism, passed away on Thursday, February 14th, 2008, surrounded by friends and family. This beautiful young woman who refused to see anything but the best possible outcome, and who kept her humour and wit until the end is now our very own Valentine Angel. She leaves her best friend and husband Charles and their children Coulton (6) and Kaitlyn (3), loving par- ents Frank and Louise Giffin (retired OPPA), sisters Liz and Kate (Paul Stevenson), brothers Frank (Lisa) and John, and her nieces and nephews, that she so loved. Jane will be sadly missed by Betty Glave (Nana to Janes children) and all the members of the Glave family. Janes buoyant and loving personality magnetized a huge circle of friends who have loved her and supported her through this journey. Heartfelt thanks to the Georgina Dragon Boat Team, CASH, Southlake Regional cancer Centre and for the tenderness expressed by the cancer care nurses, Joanne, Jennifer and Helen. Friends were received at Thompson Funeral Home, Aurora. Interment Greenwood Cemetery. In memory of Jane, donations to CASH or the Southlake Cancer Care would be appreciated. Today is precious, hug someone you love. Photo by Eamonn Maher Business of the Month Acton Seniors to hold AGM Tuesday I would like to thank Eileen Dix for covering the Seniors column for me while I spent two weeks enjoying the sunshine. It seemed we picked the right two weeks and missed a lot of snow. Everyone was happy to tell me that my name was drawn at last weeks 50/50 when I was away. Such is life! Due to unforeseen circumstances and the weather, the presentation by Pinecreek Honey was cancelled last week. Hopefully they will be at the centre on a different date. We are all hoping the weather will be kind to us on Tuesday, Feb. 26 at 2 p.m. for the Annual General Meeting. Hopefully as many members as possible will try to attend. We had our evening social dinner on Feb. 11 and it was enjoyed by everyone who braved the cold. Every lady who attended received a long- stemmed red rose. Its always nice to receive fresh flowers and the tables were beautifully decorated with candles, hearts and cherubs. After the dinner everyone enjoyed the music and some even danced to the accordion music played by Peter Baumann. As usual there was a 50/50 draw and it was won by Yvonne Van Der Heyden. The door prizes were won by Margaret Anderson, Heinz Rusche and Nettie Field. The next social dinner planned is on Monday, March 17 and will be a St. Patricks Day dinner. Victor and his crew have an Irish meal and Irish entertainment planned, so dont forget to look in the closet, find something green and come out and enjoy the fun! The program committee has lots of interesting events planned in March. They are in the process of planning a fashion show. I understand they would like to give the girls who did such a great job of modeling in the past few years a break and are looking for new models. Linda MacDonald will be here on March 11 with a presentation of Fifth Avenue Jewellery. The jewelry is always attractive. If you need a gift to mark a special occasion, or feel the need to update your own jewelry this would be a great opportunity to see the latest in fashion and design. The Birthday Tea will be on March 18 celebrat- ing any member who was born in February or March. The travel group has planned a trip to the Swing on Tuesday, March 18. The little blurb says, Jump and jive through the golden age of swing, with a tribute to Count Basie, Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington and is a great mixture of ballroom and tap dance numbers. A delicious buffet lunch is included in the price, and of course, the luxury motor coach, so you ride in style. You dont have to be a member of our Centre to enjoy the trips, so if you are interested in a little day trip come into the Centre Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to noon and pick up some literature on the great trips the travel com- mittee has planned over the next few months. If you are planning on going to the British Isles Show on March 7, please pay as soon as possible as I have to arrange the tickets. Please make sure the person at the reception gives you a second receipt from the cash register and mark you paid on the sign up sheet. Sometimes if they are busy they for- get. If saves me the embarrassment of phoning you to check if you have paid. The art classes are back in full swing on a Wednesday morning, so Wednesday mornings are very busy between the two exercise classes and the art class. I have the results of the carpet bowling and I understand Stella Brunelles Brown team beat Betty Lockerbies Black team, 12 to 10. Thank Marg Haring for letting us know the results. A return trip is planned to Mohawk race track on May 5. This is a Gals on the Go trip, but later, if there is space we will include any men who wish to accompany us. There is a sign up sheet, so put your name down early so I can make reservations. Last weeks 50/50 was won by Betty Lockerbie, who is often found here on a Friday, enjoying lunch and playing bingo. Congratulations Betty.
