to Hockey Heritage 2008 Recipient SUPPORT YOUR HOMETOWN RAIDERS THIS SATURDAY AT MOLD-MASTERS SPORTSPLEX (ALCOTT ARENA) Congratulations Hal Pells HOCKEY HERITAGE March 05, 2008 3 Not being a Georgetown guy originally, its very flat- tering to receive this award and Im surprised as many people came out for this as they did, he added. To have people like Junior Tibbits come out to congratulate you someone I havent seen in years was very nice to see. Pells has been instrumental in establishing develop- ment initiatives for the GMHA, including the introducto- ry level CHIP program, as well as a fund to assist under- privileged youths. Pellss name will now grace the cham- pionship trophy for the now-thriving 22-team midget/juvenile division, for which he was convenor prior to becoming president. When I got involved with (the GMHA), the house league all thought Hal was a rep guy and the rep guys all thought that Hal favoured the house league guys, said Ron Lefebvre, who refers to Pells as El President What I found out very quickly was that Hals really just a guy who favours the kids and all of the best inter- ests of the organization. Looking ahead, Pells said hed like to see an expan- sion of the Town of Halton Hills ice rink facilities and is in preliminary discussions with Acton minor hockey executives about a possible merger with the Georgetown association. Also during Mondays awards dinner, sponsored in part by the Kinsmen Club of Georgetown, the 2008 Georgetown Hockey Heritage Councils Murray Ezeard Memorial Plaque Awards were presented. The award is given posthumously to five people every five years who have made outstanding contributions to local hockey. Those who will receive recognition on the memorial plaque are: GMHA executive Ed Brown, coach, convenor and Memorial Arena announcer Red Cuthbert, star Intermediate Raider player Nick Ferri, house league coach and convenor Gary Louth, along with GMHA and Jr. B Raider coach Bert Osborne.
