Shantz was the co-captain, set- ter and front-line player for the Rebel senior girls volleyball team that won the Golden Horseshoe championship and was consola- tion runner-up at OFSAA. Porter placed fifth in the senior girls 200m freestyle race at the Ontario high school swimming champi- onships in Etobicoke and was a member of the Rebel freestyle relay team that placed eighth. Christ the King Athletes of the Week are Grade 9 swimmers Kaitlyn Knox and Holden Vetro. Knox raced to a first-place result in the 100m freestyle event at the GHAC qualifier to earn a trip to the provincial finals, while Vetro was the Jaguars top finisher at OFSAA, recording a seventh in the 50m butterfly and 11th in the 50m freestyle races, after a first and second, respectively, at the Golden Horseshoe meet in Hamilton. Acton District High School Athletes of the Week are Sarah Tosh and J.D. Hartnagle. Tosh, a Grade 11 student, plays the power position for Actons senior girls volleyball team and was a key player for the Bearcats in their run to a silver medal at the OFSAA A championships in Whitby. Hartnagle, a 6-foot-5 senior, stepped into the centre spot on the Bearcat hoops squad and excelled, scor- ing 17 points and adding 13 rebounds in Actons victory over Milton District in the Halton Tier II semifinals. Acton/Georgetown, Friday, March 14, 2008 21 Emily Krusky turned in a pair of first-place finishes and was among a few Halton Hills Gymnastics Centre mem- bers to qualify for the Elite Ontario Gymnastics Championships, to be held May 2-4 in Niagara Falls. Also qualifying for the Elite Ontario event are Melanie Butler and Bianca Jordaan, while Lauren Rock made the provincial finals. Shannon Daley was second in Level 6 in the Orangeville qualifier and now moves up to Level 7, where she achieved the qualifying score on her first attempt.
