Only one more week before the Acton Seniors Centre gets rocking at its Rock-a-thon at Sobeys. This fundraising event starts on Friday, April 18 at 9 a.m. and ends at 9 p.m. on Saturday. This is the Centres third Rock-a-thon and Sobeys has kindly hosted each time. Two rocking chairs will be set up in the grocery store at the Queen St. plaza and at least one of them has to be rocking during the 36-hour marathon. Every person partici- pating commits to rock for one-hour (or longer) and people can help by either rocking or sponsoring someone. Already signed up to rock are Mayor Rick Bonnette, Councillors Jon Hurst and Clark Somerville, Fiona from Blue Springs Spa and Nancy Wilkes from Acton Optical. The event is a fundraiser to help pay for the Centres operations and activities. If you would like to show your support by rocking or sponsoring, please drop by the centre and put your name and phone number on the Rock-a-thon signup sheet and/or pick up a sponsor sheet. Acton Seniors Centre holds 36-hour rocking chair marathon JULIE CONROY Acton Seniors Centre Live entertainment is planned as part this years event too. Mayor Rick Bonnette is among the celebrities signed on to spend some time rocking. The event is come dressed as you are especially in the middle of the night! Cute slippers, comfly pjs and cuddly teddy bears are all part of the ensemble for a 36-hour rocking chair marathon. Sobeys on Queen St. (Hwy 7) is open 24- hours a day, so drop by during the wee hours to show your support cute slippers optional.
