This is in addition to the millions of trees that will be planted by Scouts across Canada this year. Debbie MacPherson, Area Commissioner of Greater Hal ton Area , s ta ted that Scoutrees for Canada is designed to give all members of Scouting the opportunity to demonstrate, in a practical way, their con- cern for Canada. MacPherson pointed out that Scoutrees for Canada is also a fundraising project for Georgetown and Acton Scouting. The funds raised this year will be used to help further Scouting in the community and meet other local needs. Some of the money raised will be used to support international programs of Scouts Canada, practical programs designed to help Scouts in developing countries learn skills and trades so they can help feed and support their families and communities. Each participant wil l be expected to plant between 25 and 50 trees. Before the tree planting date, the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts will seek support from the commu- nity. Each household will only be contacted by one Scout, said MacPherson. We hope that people will remember this when they are asked to participate. Scoutrees for Canada helps to beautify Canada and will provide a future resource for all Canadians. To ensure that the trees will be planted correctly and will have a maximum chance for survival, Greater Halton Area has arranged for all participants to receive practi- cal training in conservation and reforestation. This is the Centres third f u n d r a i s i n g Rock-a-thon to help pay for the Centres opera- tions and activities. Two rocking chairs will be set up in the grocery store at the Queen St. plaza and at least one of them has to be rocking during the 36-hour marathon. Every person par- ticipating commits to rock for one half- hour (or longer) and people can help by either rocking or sponsoring someone. If you would like to show your support by rocking or sponsoring, please drop by the centre and put your name and phone number on the Rock-a-thon signup sheet and/or pick up a sponsor sheet.
