Specializing in Saltwater Pool Conversions 32 yrs. of Pool Building 905-875-7665 (POOL) www.blakespools.com BLAKES POOLS Sports & Leisure, Friday, April 11, 2008 7 Trial swims for Truscott Four years ago, Georgetown teenager Tasha Truscott watched from the stands as a spectator for the Canadian swim teams Olympic trials in Etobicoke. This past week, the 14-year-old Halton Hills Blue Fins Swim Club member was in Montreal, site of the 1976 Summer Olympics, racing against the nations best swimmers in her bid to qualify for this sum- mers Olympics in China. Truscott wasnt able to make the squad this time around, however, and will have to wait four more years to achieve her Olympic dream when the Games take place in London, England in 2012. She was disappointed with her 15th-place result with a 1:02.86 in the preliminaries for her specialty, the 100m long course butterfly, because if she had duplicated her seeding time of 1:02.31, the Grade 9 Georgetown District High School student would have made the A finals. Truscott did rebound with a time of 1:02.49 in the B final to fin- ish 11th overall in the country out of 135 entries. Perhaps more importantly, she watched the other events poolside in between her own races, swam warm-ups twice a day, and experi- enced boisterous, capacity crowds at the spectacular Montreal facility. Truscott also competed in Olympic Trials for the 200m fly (20th out of 67, 2:20.23), 100m free (93rd out of 180, 1:00.25) and the 50m free (30th out of 157, 0:27.31). The North Halton Girls Hockey Association has a full slate of games scheduled for Sunday as the Twisters hold their annual Day of Champs at the Mold-Masters SportsPlex. Games begin at 8:15 a.m. with atom and novice house league matchups. For a detailed schedule, visit www.twistersgirlshockey.com. TASHA TRUSCOTT Day of Champs Sunday for Twisters hockey
