M.55, as amended (the Act), for an order of the Board approving the terms and conditions upon which and the period for which the Corporation of the Town of Halton Hills (the Corporation) is, by by-law, to grant to the Applicant the right to construct and operate works for the distribution of gas and the right to extend and add to the works in the Town of Halton Hills (the Municipality). The Applicant has also applied for an order of the Board declaring and directing that the assent of the municipal electors to the by-law is not necessary. In addition, the Applicant has applied for an order of the Board which would supersede those parts of the existing Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity (F.B.C. 324) relating to the former Town of Acton, the former Town of Georgetown and a portion of the former Township of Esquesing within the Town of Halton Hills and replacing them with a single Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity for the Corporation of the Town of Halton Hills. The Applicant is presently serving the Town of Halton Hills. The Applicant has a franchise agreement with Town of Halton Hills (E.B.A. 280), which expired on February 6, 2008 but was extended by Interim Order EB-2008-0036. The proposed franchise agreement covers the same territory as that covered by the existing franchise agreement. The application will be decided by the Manager, Facilities Applications, who has been delegated this authority pursuant to section 6 of the Ontario Energy Board Act, 1998, S.O. 1998, c.15 (Schedule B). The Manager, Facilities Applications does not intend to provide for an award of costs when deciding this application. Copies of the application and pre-filed evidence will be available for public inspection at the Boards offices, the Applicants offices, and at the office of the Corporation at the addresses indicated below. The Board intends to proceed with the application by way of a written hearing unless a party satisfies the Board that there is a good reason for not holding a written hearing. If you object to the Board holding a written hearing in this matter, you must provide written reasons why an oral hearing is necessary. The name for the new school was selected from a short list of names gathered in suggestion boxes throughout Halton Hills. Ethel Gardiner was a former Halton District School Board trustee for Halton Hills, serving from 1995-2006. She was also elected chair of the board for six consecutive terms and her teaching and educational career included roles as a classroom and special education teacher, teaching principal, trustee and chair. Ethel Gardiners career with this Board spanned 40 years, and was almost entirely dedicated to the Halton Hills community, said Wayne Joudrie, Director of Education for the Halton District School Board. Her commitment to education in Halton continued after retirement when she served as public school board trustee and Chair. Gardiners nomination was supported by many Georgetown residents, school councils, former students, and education colleagues. The naming of a school after a person is a great honour, adds Joudrie. We had a number of excellent individuals whose names were submitted for this honour, however, trustees felt Ethel Gardiners life-long commit- ment to education in Halton was deserving at this time. In the next few years we will be building more schools and we hope the Halton community will continue to nomi- nate such excellent and deserving people for this recognition. Halton Hills Wards 3 and 4 Trustee and HDSB chair Gillian Tuck Kutarna, who sat on the nam- ing committee, said, The board was grateful to everyone who con- tributed a suggestion. The naming committee gave consideration to all the suggestions that had been proposed by the community, but by far the greatest number of ballots were cast for naming the school after Ms. Gardiner.
