At times, I have been critical in the past, but today I give kudos to the Province. On March 28, David Caplin, Minister of Public Infrastructure Renewal, announced the Town of Halton Hills had been awarded $1.9 million to be used for the reconstruction of the Maple Avenue Fire Station. Council and the fire department are all very excited about receiving these funds. Halton Hills appreciates the funding from Minister Caplin. Funding like this is showing that the provincial government is very inter- ested in assisting municipalities like ours. Councillor Moya Johnson, Chair of the Fire Services and Emergency Planning Committee, also welcomed the news by saying, funding like this is an excellent partnership program between the Town and the Province that will benefit the community, environment, and economy. Speaking of cleaning up our Town, Scott Lord is continuing with his fundraising for the Hospital for Sick Children SickKids Foundation by offering his services to the res- idents of our community for general mainte- nance such as spring and fall clean-up, yard waste removal, lawn care, planting, weeding, etc. Donations received by Scott will be donat- ed specifically to the research fund for mito- chondrial disease. If you need a helping hand, please give Scott a call at 905-877-6161, or by cell phone at 647-380-1330. A reminder to all that the eighth annual door-to-door fundraising campaign for Cancer Assistance Services of Halton Hills (CAShh) is underway. CAShh provides assistance to families in Halton Hills by providing a long list of ser- vices, at no charge. The number of cancer patients in Halton Hills is growing every year, so dont forget to donate to this very worth- while charity either at the door, or by cheque to Cancer Assistance Services Halton Hills, 222 Mountainview Road North, Halton Hills, L7G 3R2, telephone 905-702-8886. What a great job so many of you have done in helping to keep our town clean. Schools, organizations, groups and individuals took time from their busy schedules to pick up trash left over from the winter snow. Too bad we cant get through to people that littering and dumping is simply not acceptable. Lastly, I know many of you were disap- pointed with the first week of the Regional GreenCart program. I, along with councillors and staff, received many calls that first week. It is an important program, and I know the service by Halton Region will improve as time goes on. Keeping it real! I can be reached by tele- phone at 905-873-2601, ext. 2342, or by e- mail at mayor@haltonhills.ca.
