6 People in Business, Friday, May 2, 2008 Women In Business When Angela Meyer arrived in Canada in 1972, her father gave her the most valuable advice she's ever received: get your real estate license. Angela listened and received her license from Sheridan College the following year. Today, 35 years after getting her real estate license, Angela is still in the business. As a sales representative with Royal LePage Credit Valley, she helps families and small businesses with all their real estate needs, whether buying or selling. Working primarily in Brampton, Mississauga and Halton Hills, Angela was drawn to the area by the friendly communities and all the open spaces. "I love Halton Hills," she says. "It's a very nice community that still has some green around it. It also has beautiful running and cycling trails." These features are what attracted Angela, who is an avid runner, to the area. Having recently found her own dream home in Terra Cotta, she wants to help other people do the same. "I love finding people nice homes in nice neighbourhoods where they wish to be," she says. "People and houses are unique. I enjoy matching the two." Katie Newton Katie Newton refuses to sell products she doesn't like. By walking into Casa Lena Jewellery and World Imports, her store in downtown Georgetown, it's quite obvious what Katie likes. "Our motto is lots of colour!" she says. Casa Lena is jam-packed with brightly coloured, one-of- a-kind pieces of jewellery, home dr items, and women's clothing and accessories. All items have a decided Latin flavour about them. Katie has strong ties to Latin America. She adopted her daughter, Lena, from Guatemala. Katie also lived in Peru for two years and has travelled extensively throughout South America. She still frequently travels there to buy products to sell in her store. She only sells fair trade products and likes to support female co-ops around the world. "Everything in the store, I can tell you where it's from, who made it, and it affects that community," she says. Katie is proud to be able to share this information with her customers at Casa Lena. She looks forward to many more years in business, providing her customers with unique jewellery and unique finds from around the world.
