Carrying an 80 per cent average in school, Silas is still a strong scholarship candidate for the big-name U.S. college teams such as NCAA champion Boston College that have come calling, but it would seem that hes already settled on playing in Belleville. School is always the priority and at the start of the year I was leaning more towards the NCAA because I didnt know much about the OHL and what they had to offer academi- cally, added Silas, who is represented by Kyle Dubas of Uptown Sports Management. Weve now been able to learn more about the OHL and see that they have a good pro- gram and are taking education more seriously than they have in the past. Hopefully Ill be playing in Belleville next year. The Bulls, who have already qualified for the Memorial Cup in Kitchener next week, took Georgetown resident Andy Bathgate in the third round of the 2007 draft and the 17- year-old centre signed with Belleville in December. Bathgate has dressed for five games in the Bulls playoff run and has no points thus far, although Silas credits his former schoolmate with a big assist in helping prepare for the draft. The duo teamed up to lead the CtK Jaguars to a provincial title and a 22-0 record last year for the Grade 9- 10 division. We had great chemistry together and hopefully well get to play on the same team again in Belleville, Silas said. Hes been a big help to me over the past two years in explaining how things with the draft work and to not be nervous, that things will work them- selves out. And I know he put in good words for me with their head scout. Silas traveled to Belleville Tuesday to meet with the staff and players and to take in game four of the OHL final between the Bulls and Kitchener Rangers. He will continue to play both field and box lacrosse over the next few months for the Halton Hills midgets, and the field team is considered a strong contender to compete in the national championships in Calgary later this summer. Lacrosse is a big part of my life because Ive always been told not to play just one sport through the year and its always good to take a break from hockey for a while, he said. It helps keep you motivated and you still use a lot of skills that are useful in hockey and its great for conditioning. A half-dozen players from the minor midget Hurricanes were taken in the OHL draft, including Campbellvilles Michael Sgarbossa, a centreman selected in the third round by the Barrie Colts. His older brother Rob spent five seasons with the Georgetown Jr. A Raiders. Please recycle this newspaper Silas hopes to join pal Bathgate on Belleville roster next year Continued from pg. 15
