Council is seeking volunteers from across the municipality to serve on the Committee that will meet once a month for the concurrent term of Council (2006-2010). First stop was in Colorado, United States where she visited son, Obadiah Ariss, director of Foundations and Giving with the Colorado Symphony in Denver. While there she participated in the annu- al Fibre Art Show, that also features the most renowned fibre artists in the United States. Not content to relax while on holi- days, she was commissioned to create a diptych in black and white for New York pianist Ellen Van den Broeck, who has a second home in Colorado. Then Ariss flew Down Under to Cairns, Australia to visit her other son, Derek, also, a writer and painter and a mega-mall manager. He and Ariss collab- orated on some paintings while spending time together. Cairns, known for its rainforest and reef, is also a heaven for the arts, says Ariss. Her work was on view in four gal- leries, plus she held her own solo art show attended by the whos who in the arts from the area. Ariss says she falls in the category of artists who does photography, but does not copy from photos because she is on a mission to search for new ways of expres- sion of the human journey in an ever- changing world. Ariss photographed some of the rain- forest vegetation and started a series of limited prints samples can be seen and ordered on a regular basis at the Main Street Inn in Georgetown. Ariss says upcoming creations will deal with Universal Space, Within and Farout. She plans to participate in local and GTA group shows as well as plan- ning several solo shows throughout 2008. Ariss is working on three childrens picture books and continues to research a long-term project towards a novel dealing partly with the struggles and successes of her and her husbands ancestors in Eastern Europe, Mediterranean and South America. Globe Musical Production holds auditions for its November 2008 presentation of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, May 21 and May 23 in the Globe rehearsal hall (St. Paul's Church) in Norval.
