Photo by Patti Post Claire Buxton Claire is currently a student at Georgetown District High School, where she is involved in the Link Crew and the school band. She has been a stu- dent ambassador for Central Ontario Leadership Seminar, since Grade 10. She has played an important role in the organization of annual OFSAA swim meet for the past two years. Laura Crawford Laura is a Grade 10 student at Georgetown District High School, where she plays on the Junior Girls basketball and soccer teams. Laura is an active member with the Student Athletic Association, as well as the Junior Band. She is a well-rounded individual, who also volunteers her time for the Georgetown Bread Basket. Laura has earned the Bronze Level of the Duke of Edinburgh Award through her involvement in Air Cadets. Kathleen Dennis Kathleen is a current student at Acton District High School, who is tremendously committed to volun- teering her time. Kathleen has vol- unteered as a swim instructor both with the Town of Halton Hills Aquatics program, and Rocky Ridge Ranch. She is an active member in the school band and numerous sport teams. She has assisted in the organization of the Terry Fox Run and Relay for Life campaigns. She has recently been nomi- nated as the Valedictorian for Acton District High School. Alexandra Holtom Winner of the Maggie Connolly Youth Recognition Award: Alex is a current student at Georgetown District High School, where she is an active member of the Social Justice League, Diversity Days Committee, and the Link Crew and is the founder of the Queer-Straight Alliance. She is involved with POSSE (Peer Outreach Support Services and Education), to pro- vide support for youth in the Halton region. She also volunteers her time at the library and as a soccer coach. Paul Morrison Paul is a current student at Christ the King, who is active in many school aspects. He is a mem- ber of the badminton team, the Reach Team and works as a Prefect. Paul dedicates his time to volunteering with the Georgetown Minor Hockey Association and the Georgetown Food Bank. Paul has earned the Bronze Level of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award, for his commit- ment to volunteer work. Darcy Ryan Briand D'arcy is a current student at Christ the King, who is being recognized for his involvement with Maple Avenue Baptist Church. He has been a wonderful role model for participants on youth retreats, as well as the Junior High Youth program. Through his passion within these activities, he has been able to motivate numerous individuals in the community. Saveena Loch Saveena is a Grade 11 student com- pleting the International Baccalaureate program at Georgetown District High School. Saveena is dedicated to the school community by holding active roles on the Senior Girls field hockey team, the Debate Club, the Breakfast Club, the Queer-Straight Alliance and the Social Justice League. She also finds time to be a role model within of the Halton Hills community through her involvement with Habitat for Humanity, Central Ontario Leadership Seminar and the United Youth Initiative. Marc Stiel Marc is a current student at Georgetown District High School. He is a member of POSSE (Peer Outreach Support Services and Education), as well as Georgetown District High School Drug Awareness and Response committee. He is striving to provide youth with the infor- mation they need to make the best decision possible. At the Open Door Youth Centre, Marc often acts natural leader providing necessary guidance for youth. He is active on the Mayor's Youth Action Committee, providing youth within Halton Hill with numerous opportunities. At GDHS, Marc is an active member of the QSA and the Diversity Days committee. Julia Holland Julia is a Grade 8 student at Holy Cross Catholic School where she is an outstanding student and athlete. She is active in the student council where she is the school Minster of Finance and Communications. Julia has vol- unteered to plant trees with Future Forests of Halton Hills, organized food drives for the Georgetown Bread Basket and volunteers serving food for the home- less. Julia helped organize a stocking drive fundraiser at her school which raised $900 to purchase necessities for children in her school community. Congratulations from Michael Chong, M.P.
