Carrying fluorescent signs with slogans that included, Practise What You Preach, CtK, the students were upset that friend Brad Osborne, who now attends Georgetown District High School full-time, has been barred from the prom by CtK officials. Christ the King student Christine Lightfoot decided to post flyers in support of her friend around the school, which has a population of 1,500, and had hoped to stage a full-scale walkout Thursday morning. She said she was called to the main office and was sent home, but instead the largely female group organized a protest on the side- walk in front of the Guelph St. school from about 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. yesterday. Passing motorists honked their horns in apparent sup- port while residents across the street stood outside their homes, wondering what the fuss was about. Halton Police also patrolled the area and watched from a strip mall park- ing lot across the street. We talked to the school nicely and tried to come up with different things that would allow Bradley to go to the prom, but that didnt work so we put up flyers around the school with his picture on it that said, What happened to the Christian way of forgiving sins? Lightfoot said. Osborne joined the protest and admitted that he had been expelled from Christ the King a couple of years ago and while he wouldnt disclose why he was dismissed from attending classes, he did say that he has since changed my habits. He added that he was surprised to learn Wednesday that he wouldnt be allowed to go to the prom with his girlfriend (a CtK student) despite purchasing a ticket a month ago, already having booked a suit and a limousine for the event. He said he has attended a basketball game and another event at Christ the King in the past year without incident. Ive been doing great at (GDHS), my grades are up and I didnt think there would be a problem going to the prom, but Mr. (CtK vice principal Mike) Harris and I didnt get along when I was there.
