Well get ready for a new updated look to your Georgetown Seniors Centre. Renovations are starting June 3rd and hopefully will be completed around June 30. Please bear with the mess. They are hoping to carry on with drop-in programs but stay tuned for further information regard- ing these or you could call the Centre. I know you have already circled Thursday, June 5 on your calendars. You did that because you wanted to come to the Annual Variety Night put on by the Drama Club. We have skits, lots of music, jokes, and a visit by Rita McNeil and George Burns. You dont want to miss it! June is Seniors Month and to cel- ebrate those of us who are 55+, there will be special events going on at the Gellert Centre on Tuesday, June 10. The day starts off with tryouts to Ballroom Dancing to a live band. Then you can move onto learning what to look for when buying a digi- tal camera including a first lesson on its use. Next there is a review of the use of the defibrillator, a life-saving device now found in most public places including your Centre. Then we move onto Laughing Yoga. Now that sounds like fun. Ever heard of it before? Well, come out to the Gellert Centre to find out. Lunch is a Lunch and Learn, teaching you how to cook for one person. There will be a cost for this. The next day, June 11, is a free seniors swim at the Gellert. Join S.A.L.T. (Seniors And Law- enforcement Together) for a fun- filled afternoon to launch the new Halton Seniors Helpline. It is a humourous presentation by Judy Suke, Aging Isnt for Sissies - Let Laughter Lighten the Load Judy shares some helpful tips to control and lower stress of aging in this hectic world. Tips that will help you move ahead with ease. Your laughter during the presentation will immediately heal the body, soothe the soul, and lift the spirits and give you energy. This all takes place at the Alliance Church on Friday, June 13, from 12:30-3 p.m. FREE LUNCH includ- ed. Seating is limited so please call the Helpline toll free number to reg- ister: 1-866-457-8252. Roast beef and salads will be served at the barbecue dinner on Saturday, June 21 at our Centre. Theres another date to circle on your calendar. I will have more information in my next report. Join the team looking to the future. Come out to your George- town Seniors Centre. FLORENCE RIEHL Georgetown Seniors Centre The digital camera classes have started a new session, and 11 people are learning to use their digital cam- eras to their fullest potential under the tuition of Victor Bissonette. On May 20, Karen Timms with Decorating Den was inspiring 22 ladies to give a new and fresh look to their homes. She brought swatches of materi- al, colour charts and wonderful ideas. Everyone enjoyed the afternoon and went home ready to make changes. (The husbands must have hated the program.) Most of the day trips offered by Great Canadian through the Seniors Centre fill up quickly and have waiting lists. The Orillia Opera House is featuring a British comedy show, Are You Being Served?, which I am sure many of you have watched and enjoyed over the years on television. After the show its off for a boat cruise and a steak barbecue. Its not until Thursday, Aug. 21, so hopefully the weather will have improved by then. It will be a full day event. Would anyone planning to go to the Guelph Wellington County Brewery, please sign up and pay as soon as possi- ble as I have to confirm numbers. The Evening Euchre last Wednesday evening was enjoyed by everyone who played. Betty Brewer had the lone hands. High Lady was Frances Hogenbirk, and High Man was Carol Volmar and Don Milton won the booby. The next Evening Euchre will be on Wednesday, June 18, at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome. At the Thursday afternoon bid euchre I understand Elma Braida had an 18 wheeler, which means she held 4x18 (whatever that is!) Our next Birthday Tea will be on Tuesday, June 3 at 2 p.m., celebrating members born in June and July. Keep in mind our giant garage sale. We are accepting donations of items in good, saleable condition, but not until Friday, June 13. Please try and hang on to them until then. The sale starts on Saturday, June 14 at 8 a.m. and runs until noon. There will be coffee and muffins available if garage sales give you the munchies. June is officially designated as Seniors Month in Ontario and to celebrate we are having a special event at the Gellert Centre in Georgetown. This is a com- bined effort by the Halton Hills Recreation and Parks Department and the Acton and Georgetown Seniors Centres. There will be demonstrations, featuring ballroom dancing with a live band, flower arranging, yoga, defibrilla- tion training and health lectures. Lunch will be available with the proceeds going to both Centres. If you are wondering what either the Acton or the Georgetown centres can offer you, now is the time to find out. Come and enjoy the day. If you havent seen the Gellert Centre you will be very impressed with the lovely facility and pool. Many people dont realize but if you are a member of either Centre you can visit both and enjoy their programs. There will be transportation available if you need a ride, but you must sign up at the front desk. The following week, Tuesday, June 17, at 6 p.m. we will be holding our annual barbecue open to all members and this is one occasion when the board members help with the cooking, serving and preparing. There will also be enter- tainment, and Victor tells me the band, Yuz Three Guys, are a multi-talented group. JULIE CONROY Acton Seniors Centre
