Submitted photo Its been a whirlwind month of May for Georgetowns under-16 girls Impact as the standout volleyball squad competed at two national championship tournaments, earning a silver medal in one and a top-eight placing in the other. At the under-17 Tier II nationals in Ottawa, the provincial champion Impact was seeded third in its prelim- inary pool but reeled off wins over Winnipeg, Cambridge and another Ontario team before rolling through to the quarterfinals. Georgetown beat the favoured Peel under-17 Selects from Brampton 23- 25, 25-20, 16-14 and then knocked off another #1 seed, the Scarborough Titans, 25-22, 25-23 in the final four to reach the finals. Kingston under-17 Pegasus was the opposition and knocked off the Impact 25-23, 17-15, 15-11 to win the tournament. The local side was seeded ninth out of 108 teams in Canada for the under-16 Tier I championships in Calgary, having placed fourth in Ontario at the playdowns in April. Despite the absence of six-foot middle player Lindsay McCabe, who was unable to travel with the team, the Impact was again able to make it to the final round of eight teams, eventually falling to the Brandon Storm of Manitoba 15-25, 22-25. Georgetown was the only entry in the tourney to take a game from the eventual champion Calgary Dinosaurs. Ontario field championship roundup Midget squad are top Dogs See BANTAM, pg. 2
