Every second Wednesday, Maggie can be found in Acton at Links2Care, 47 Mill St. E., 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., where she provides citizens with assistance on a wide variety of Government of Canada programs and services. Maggie is one of many knowledgeable Service Canada employees who visit communities throughout Ontario on a regular basis to help citizens access the pro- grams and services they need. Service Canadas goal is to bring Government of Canada programs and services together with one point of contact, said Nancy Green, direc- tor of Service Canada Centres in Halton-Peel. We want to provide Canadians with one-stop, easy-to- access, personalized service. All Canadian residents can con- tact Service Canada to find out about the programs and services available through the Government of Canada. Information on Canada Pension Plan, Old Age Security and other income support programs is available for seniors. Parents can apply for a Social Insurance Number on behalf of their children and become aware of other programs such as Parental Leave and the Universal Child Care Benefit to name just a few. Although technology has made it easier to access the Government of Canada by phone, Internet or maill, some clients prefer to come into a Service Canada Centre. Thats why the site in Acton is so important. Service Canada is able to bring ser- vices to citizens where they live. Maggie has made some new friends in her community of Acton. People have come in to apply for the Canada Pension Plan and come back on a regular basis just to say hello and chat. Info: 1 800 O-Canada or www.servicecanada.gc.ca.
