The public will be able to have their say about a new Town community improvement plan (CIP), now in its ini- tial stages, at an open meeting in the council chambers at the Halton Hills Civic Centre on Wednesday (June 25). CIPs are designed to revitalize flagging economic areas in the town with incen- tives for private landowners and investors. The public information centre will be held between 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. and will allow the public to ask questions of Town planning staff and consultants about the strategies included in a recent CIP Strategy Discussion Paper. There will be no formal presentation, but will include display boards and feedback opportunities. The Chamber, Acton and Georgetown BIAs, agricultural community and brownfield landowners will also be con- sulted. Part of the Discussion Paper focuses on the future development and improve- ment of five key specific areas in the Town such as the Guelph St. retail area; Downtown Georgetown; Downtown Acton; Georgetown GO Station lands; agricultural lands and brownfield sites. Town consultant Steve Willis told council recently, Downtown George- town is quite healthy in many ways and would be the envy of many of my other clients... Main Street is very attractive with very significant investment into it and pays off with the quality of services you find on the street. And one of the lit- mus tests I always use is how many banks still exist in the downtown. I think you would have one of the highest num- ber in the core of historic downtown.
