In an update presented to Halton Hills council at a June meeting, Town Treasurer Ed DeSousa sug- gested that the picture is coming clearer on the towns water woes, which is stalling residential growth. Additional homes bring revenues to the Town that allows the building of municipal facilities like new libraries. Whats changed? According to DeSousas update there is a potential this fall for the release of 500 SDEs (single detached home equivalent) units of water for new homes. After Halton Region upgrades the sewage and water treat- ment plants by 2010-2011, another 1,200 SDEs could be released. A fur- ther 700 SDEs is dependent on whether another well to service Georgetown is found (a search is currently underway). Under the latest scenario, which will be firmed up for the August 11 budget meeting, $12.5 million will be spent: $10.6 million on the Georgetown branch library renova- tion and expansion and $1.9 million on the Cultural Centres (John Elliott Theatre and Gallery) alter- ations. LEED certification of the project would mean at least another $400,000. This is still our next big project; council is committed to it. The pub- lic should still be anticipating were going to be doing it as soon as we confirmed all of our finances, said See LIBRARY, pg. 4 Editorial 6 Gary Carr 7 School news 8 Sports 13-15 Calendar 16 Classifieds 17-18 Despite complaints from neighbours, a rul- ing allows events to con- tinue at Halton Place this summer.
