Acton/Georgetown, Friday, July 11, 2008 9 The Acton Rotary Club celebrated the 100th anniversary of the founding of Rotary in 2004- 2005, by fundraising and building an open air band shell in Prospect Park. The project got underway in 2006, with the financial support of the Town of Halton Hills in the form of a loan. Recently the Club celebrated it 2007-2008 changeover day with a barbecue at the home of Rotarian Dave and Marnie Manes. During this meeting Councillor Jon Hurst, representing the Town of Halton Hills, accepted a $19,102.26 cheque from the Rotary Club of Acton which paid off the outstanding balance of the loan from the Town. The band shell cost more than $100,000. It is coincidental that the first function held at the Rotary Band Shell was the 2007 Canada Day celebrations and the first function to be held at the debt-free Rotary Band Shell was this years Canada Day celebrations. Acton Rotarians, from left, President Ed Lawson, Band Shell Project Chair Bill Beaton, and Past President Bill Sanford present Town of Halton Hills Ward 1 Councillor Jon Hurst with a $19,102 cheque as final payment on the band shell in Prospect Park.
