When they arrived the house was fully involved. The blaze gutted the home. A spokesperson for the fire department said the cause of the fire was undetermined and no damage value was available. However, a severe thunderstorm had moved through the area shortly before. Milton Fire Department also responded to the blaze. Photo courtesy Ruth Germain Are you up to the challenge? Can you take some heat? Halton Hills Fire Protection and Prevention Services is hiring four new part-time firefighters. The department is seeking individuals who are physically fit, work well in a team environ- ment and capable of working under all kinds of conditions while helping others, said Chief of Operations John Martin. We are filling four vacancies and anticipate the recruit training will start in November. He said crucial in the hiring process is the travel distance a firefighter must drive to reach their respective station. Staff must live within five km (three miles) of the station that they are assigned. Time is critical when responding to emergencies, said Martin.
