Ask for Casey Acton/Georgetown, Friday, August 8, 2008 5 Georgetown company, EFCO, will start construction on a more than 40,000 sq. ft. expansion to its Todd Rd. plant, and local company, McNally Ltd. will build it. Economy Forms of Canada (EFCO), which makes steel forms for concrete for the con- struction industry has been located in Georgetown since the 1960s. One of its most prestigious projects was the production of steel forms for the Confederation Bridge that crosses the Northumberland Strait connecting Prince Edward Island with New Brunswick. McNally Ltd. has operated in Georgetown since the 1950s and has built many of the fac- tories and schools in the area. They are also own a large inventory of industrial space where literally hundreds of local residents work. District Manager of EFCO, Bernie Poirier said, We are pleased that our parent company has approved this expansion in Georgetown (as) it will allow our company to service our growing client list. We look forward to work- ing with McNally Ltd. EFCO will benefit from the Town of Halton Hills Economic Development Manufacturing Expansion Fund, which covers some of the Towns fees for qualified companies. McNally Ltd. to handle construction EFCO plans major expansion The Town of Halton Hills has purchased $1.5 million worth of salt for use on roads over the next three winters. Sifto Canada, which has delivered salt to the Town for the past 19 years, will supply the salt. The Towns share of the $1.5 million is about 70 per cent, and the remaining amount is Halton Regions share in Halton Hills. The Town has a salt management plan to ease the environmental impact of the sodium chloride on vegetation. The average application rate is now 170 kg per kilometre, a 24 per cent reduction from the 225 kg/km five years ago. As well the application of liquid calcium chlo- ride has helped to keep the salt on the road and get it working faster. Staff has also reduced the percentage of salt used in the sand mix from 7.5 per cent to 3 per cent. This mix is used in the bitter cold condi- tions when salt is not as effective as a de-icer. Salt alternatives are available but the cost is prohibitive. Town makes $1.5 million road salt purchase
