Halton Hil ls local newspaper was informed Friday it had been recognized with the awards at the Crime Stoppers worldwide conference, competing against more than 1,000 papers from more than 30 countries. This is a big deal to take top honours in this competition, said Tom Suddaby, chair of Halt- ons Crime Stoppers program. It s truly world-class recogni- tion. The Independent & Free Press , took the award for Best Newspaper Crime of the Week for highlighting the theft of a bronze memorial marker. I t had been installed at Rotary Park in Acton in memory of former Acton Citizen of the Year Max MacSween, who died after a brief battle with leukemia.
