We all know what that means for the kids but what about you? Are you an adult who has given some thought to upgrading your skills? Do you know of an adult who needs help with upgrading reading, writing or basic math skills? Literacy North Halton offers a second chance to adults who wish to find or keep a job, as well as increase their indepen- dence through better literacy skills. We also provide a computer course for people who need to learn basic computer skills for the workplace. Program staff will be happy to help define what your needs are and provide you with information on the best services for you in the community. Our Read*Spell*Write program oper- ates all year long with one-on-one volun- teer tutors and small group sessions. We run computer classes throughout the community both day and evenings. How about preparation for college? LNH is the satellite location for Sheridan College in Georgetown. Our part-time evening courses Monday through Wednesday offer upgrading in both math and English. It costs nothing to come in and do a short assessment. Once you are registered in our ACE program, you are already considered a student of Sheridan College and this program is also recog- nized by all Ontario colleges. Here are a few of our students pro- files: Corrines goal is to enrol in the General Arts & Science Program at Sheridan College. Corrine was unsuccess- ful writing the mature student test through the admissions process at Sheridan and was referred to the ACE program. When she was asked what she likes about the program in Georgetown she commented, finally I have a teacher that cares not enough do that. Joe wanted to pass the GED test to apply for apprenticeship in the automo- tive field. Joe likes the smaller group in ACE and appreciates being able to ask for help more often. Kim says, I came to the ACE pro- gram to prepare myself for college as I am going into the trades. I also want to better myself for my son when he becomes school age. More recently, employees, who work in large businesses, have been applying to our ACE program to assist them in upgrading their math and English so they can successfully pass the entrance test for an apprenticeship program with their employer.
