Acton/Georgetown, Friday, September 5, 2008 33 Where has the summer gone? Have you noticed the leaves are already turning colour, which can only mean ... that fall is in the air. On Thursday, Sept. 18, our regular monthly Ladies Auxiliary general meetings begin, starting at 8 p.m., and there is lots of room for you girls to come out to listen, get involved and enjoy the camaraderie with a cup and low-cal desserts. Reminder: your membership dues are $12 and you can pay the night of our meetings, or by leaving your cheque in an envelope marked on the front with the name of Comrade Sheila HicksMembership, at the bar downstairs or you can mail it in too. Your member- ship is very important to us. Our 80th Anniversary Birthday Supper Honours and Awards Evening on Saturday, Sept. 20 is fast approach- ing and you may still purchase a ticket at a cost of $10 from Jane Joga at 905-873-6194 or Jean Armonas at 905- 873-7142. Starting in September to participate in sports there is a $10 annual fee you must pay before you play. See Comrade Jean Armonas, who is our Sports Officer, if you have any questions. Our annual Christmas Bazaar date is Saturday, Nov. 22 and it is certainly one of the best in Georgetown. To our shut-ins and those under the weather, we fondly think of you all. JULIE CONROY Acton Seniors Centre JANET MALLOY Georgetown Legion Ladies Auxiliary Tickets selling for Legion Ladies 80th Birthday & Awards Dinner I see many familiar faces returning to the Centre after having enjoyed vacations at their cottages or visiting friends and families. Welcome back everyone. Things are quiet at the Centre at the moment but starting Monday, there will be lots of interesting things happening, especially during Open House Week, Sept. 8-12. If you are 55 or over and havent found time to visit the Centre, please try and do so during the week. I am sure there is something that will interest you. Did you know if you are a member of the Acton Seniors Centre you can also participate in the programs offered at the Georgetown Centre? You can learn a little about first aid and learn how a defibrillator works to restart the heart. Play darts or cards, learn to line dance, exercise safely at whichever level is suitable for you. See a belly dancing display, Nordic walking, yoga and many other activities. The new Hillsview newsletters should be at the front desk today. Pick one up and find out what is happening over the next two months. There are clipboards for line dancing, darts, pool, crafts, bridge and scrabble. If any of these interests you please put your name on the list. Tickets are on sale at the front desk for Swiss Chalet dinner on Wednesday, Sept. 10. Last chance to buy tick- ets is today (Sept. 5). If anyone is interested in a day browsing the quaint stores and having lunch at one of the many bakeries or pubs in Niagara on the Lake on Monday, Sept. 29, there is still room on the bus. Niagara is a lovely spot to visit and we are having a luxury coach for the trip thanks to the kind donation from a local dentist. If you have visited the Acton Seniors Centre you will know we are often a little cramped for space. Now that the Acton Community Hub is in operation (adjoining the McKenzie-Smith Bennett School), people that usual- ly paid and picked up their Good Food Boxes here each month will now do so at the Hub. If you use the Links2Care location that will remain the same. Most people already know about the changes, but if you have been out of touch for a couple of months this will update you. Full slate of activities resume at the Acton Seniors Centre The Georgetown Seniors Centre has planned a trip to the Chinese Lantern Festival, at Ontario Place, for Thursday, Sept. 25. Cost is $300 $10 for bus and $20 admittance. This trip is open to anyone 55+. Please call to register as soon as possible, 905-877-6444. Georgetown Seniors plan trip to festival
