It is designed to help par- ticipants reach their fullest potential through the values of communication, co-opera- tion, and leadership, while pro- moting a healthy sense of self. We are thrilled with the response our program has received since its inaugur- al session last fall, says Program Director Amy Kelleher, who is a certified teacher at the Intermediate/Senior Level. It is our hope that our Leadership Program will increase opportu- nities for young people in Halton Hills to be leaders in the community, volunteer in mean- ingful projects and truly make a difference in their world. Past highlights of the program have featured a fund-raising event for P.O.W.E.R. (Protect Our Water and Environmental Resources) of North Halton, a chat with Mayor Rick Bonnette and a workshop on goal-setting with Provincial Cycling Coach Denise Kelly. Programming is based on developing char- acter, building leadership and encouraging teamwork. More specifically, it addresses such contemporary issues as handling peer pressure, caring for others, healthy eating, developing an appreciation for diversity and active living. Students are also encouraged to sharpen their presentation and speaking skills by engaging in public speaking and drama activities.
