This is a planning exercise that I feel we were dragged into kicking and screaming. Now we have to deal with it. This is Phase Two of a four-phase study known as Sustainable Halton that began in 2006; produced a large volume of background informa- tion during 2007; and is expected to be complet- ed by June, 2009. The five regional concepts, which were reduced from nine, will be reduced to about three this fall, with a preferred regional growth concept being released for public consultation by the Region in early 2009. The Town has produced a series of reports throughout Phases 1 and 2 that have resulted in input during the process. The most recent release was a discussion paper on August 11. This discussion paper is available on the Towns website at www.haltonhills.ca and in the Planning Departments Sustainable Halton section. The Town hosted a workshop Monday at the Gellert Community Centre. Council will have a special meeting Sept. 24 to discuss the growth concepts. The Georgetown Allotment Gardens are offi- cially open. The Allotment Gardens have been developed in conjunction with the Town and the Georgetown Allotment Group. Congratulations to Lil Taggert and the many volunteers for seeing your dream come true. Congratulations also to the organizers of the first Walk for the Georgetown Hospital on June 22. This event raised an incredible $36,000 for the Georgetown Hospital. I hope everyone got out to enjoy the 162nd annual Georgetown Fall Fair this past weekend. Dont forget to mark your calendar to attend the 95th annual Acton Fall Fair on September 19-21. I can taste the fried onions on a burger now. Speaking of fall, motorists should take extra care now that the children are back in school. Crossing guards do an extraordinary job in ensur- ing the safety of our children to and from school, but motorists must also do their part. On behalf of council, I welcome the following new businesses: Head-to-Toe Healthcare, Acton; Rampullas Martial Arts, Georgetown. Keeping it real! I can be reached by telephone at 905-873-2601, ext. 2342, or by e-mail at mayor@haltonhills.ca. Rick Bonnette is the mayor of Halton Hills Town forced to deal with growth issue Rick Bonnette
