Independent & Free Press, Wednesday, September 10, 2008 13 The Miss Acton Pageant is looking for participants for this years event. The festivities will take place on the opening night of the fair, Friday Sept. 19. The winner will begin a year-long experience of representing the Acton Agricultural Society and the community of Acton at numerous func- tions and events. Contestants should be between the ages of 16 and 22, attend Acton High School or live in Acton, Limehouse, Ballinafad, or Rockwood areas. The Pageant format consists of a private interview with a panel of judges, an onstage appearance and greet- ing, and a two-minute prepared speech on a preapproved topic. After the initial judging is completed, finalists are chosen and they are asked to answer a question. The qualities the judges will be looking for in the next Miss Acton are: the ability to make people feel comfortable; her friendliness and attitude; presentation and public speaking, poise and control. Contestants are to bring to outfits the night of the pageant. The first is to be more conservative, something that would be worn to a job interview. The second outfit is to be more formal and reflect how you would portray yourself if you were select- ed to be Miss Acton. Make-up services will be available.
