I usually e-mail it to The Independent & Free Press but they did not get the last one I sent. Seems like it disappeared out there somewhere in cyber land. Just goes to show you that modern technology does not always work. I hope you are planning to attend some of the Open House activities, especially the Rock and Roll lunch today (Friday). Wear your 50/60s costume and come on out and enjoy a fantas- tic lunch and live entertainment by Liz Tilden. I hear she is really talented. The Georgetown Centre can boast its own gold medal win- ners. Lorne Hammond and Jim Akers both won gold in Bid Euchre at the Senior Games held in London, Ontario in August. Congratulations. I am hearing all kinds of positive comments about the new look at the Centre. It looks very warm and inviting and finished just in time for Open House week. If you havent seen it yet, you are in for a very pleasant surprise. It looks really spiffy! And that new Reception Desk! Wow! Lists are posted and it is now time to register for the paid pro- grams. Each program requires a minimum number of applicants. If the minimum registration is not met by the start of the pro- gram, it will likely be cancelled. Dont hesitate. Sign up! Please note: If a participant cancels at least 48 hours prior to the first day of the program, a credit voucher, less $8.08 cancella- tion fees, will be issued. A refund may be provided in lieu of a credit voucher upon request only. Sorry. No credit vouchers/refunds once the program has begun. If a program is cancelled by the Centre, a full refund will be given. Credit vouchers are redeemable for up to two years from date of issue. Some people have shown an interest in taking some trips other than those offered by the Travel Desk. Arrangements have been made for a couple of excursions. These will be open, at pre- sent, to anyone 55+. Our first such trip is to see the Chinese Lantern Festival on September 25. It proved so popular that we now have two buses going. Sorry! It is full. The second trip to St. Jacobs for October 2 is likewise full. Thanks to everyone for your great support in this new venture. Stay tuned for notice of further trips. These are not intended to take away from those offered from the Travel Desk. This is an advance notice of an Art Workshop in painting with Acrylics to be held Saturday, Oct. 18 at the Centre from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. This workshop will be given by Doug Purdon, a prac- tising artist who has instructed at Loyalist College and University of Toronto. Register at Reception Desk on or before October 8 as space is limited. Cost is $45 for members and $50 for non-mem- bers. Some materials will be available. Bon Appetite lunches will be served by Links2Care the third week of every month excluding December. The first lunch is October 17. All lunches will cost $7 and you will need to sign up early as space is limited. Mark your calendar for Monday, Sept. 29 when you will have the opportunity to look at fall fashions as Alia - Tan Jay of Milton present a Fall Fashion Show at our Centre beginning at 1:30 p.m. The cost is $5 and includes light refreshments and a ticket in the 50/50 draw. Toonie Movie Friday will be held the last Friday of the month. The first movie, The Illusionist, will be on September 26 followed by The Bucket List on October 31. You not only get to see a first class movie but you will have popcorn and a drink for your toonie. Youve got to admit we have some really good deals at the Georgetown Centre. Remember to tell your friends. A reminder to all people visiting the Seniors Centre. You are to sign in and state your reason for being there. It is easy now as the sign-in book is located at the Reception Desk. If you forget you may be asked by the Receptionist on duty to sign the book. This record gives statistics needed to send to the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care and affects our grant. They also prove to the Town our need for more space. Now that you have read through this report get out that calen- dar and mark down all these dates. Dont want you to miss any- thing. Life is beginning to ROCK at the Georgetown Seniors Centre. I may have to take an extra dose of geritol to keep up! Georgetown Seniors Centre is beginning to rock FLORENCE RIEHL Georgetown Seniors Centre We are hoping to start a Bridge Club, teach pool and get a scrabble club started. Each program needs someone to head it up. Could you help? There are clipboards for line dancing, darts, pool, crafts, bridge and scrabble. If any of these interests you please put your name on the list. Joining the Centre means you can be as active as you wish. You might wish to visit only on special occasions, or for the one program that interests you. You might enjoy being on a committee, or meeting people by being on the reception desk for four hours. There are lots of choices. The Gals on the Go (and men too) trip to Mohawk for the buffet dinner and races on Sept. 15 still has a few open- ings. There are also a few seats available for the Niagara on the Lake trip on Sept. 29. If you are interested you might sign up and pay this week. The Mama Mia trip is sold out I am afraid. Is anyone interested in going to the St. Lawrence Market in Toronto again on a Saturday, St. Jacobs Village and Market on a Thursday or the Westfield Heritage Village near Cambridge on a Saturday in December, when the pio- neer village is decorated for Christmas? I will put a sign up sheet in the usual spot to see how much interest there is. The September/October issue of the Acton Seniors Centres Hillsview newsletter is at the front desk, also the Acton Library. Pick one up so you will know what is hap- pening at the Centre during the new few months. It also has contact phone numbers, which is very handy. Do you need to update your clothes for fall? Geri Fashions will be here on Tuesday, Sept. 16, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with fashions by Alia and Tan Jay. Everything from sweaters and pants to sleepwear and casual clothing. You will be able to try on anything that takes your eye. A great chance to shop without leaving town. JULIE CONROY Acton Seniors Centre Acton Seniors Centre needs volunteers
