What an Open House week we had! The Centre was like a beehive, buzzing coming from every nook and cranny. On Monday I took the Ballroom Line Dancing demo. I learned how to do the merengue and now I am really eager for the next class. Heavens knows what other dance steps I will learn. This class will be held on Thursday evenings from 7-8 p.m. There is still lots of room for you to sign up and come out. Dance is supposed to be a really great exercise. Then came Tuesday and the fantastic BBQ. I dont know how many people they served but it seemed like the line would never end. The Band played while we chowed down on hamburgers and corn. The smiles on all the faces and the chatter gave evidence that those who came were really having a great time. Wednesday brought me back for Tai Chi and then Mingle and Chat where hugs were the catch of the day and I caught a few. I was just about played out by Thursday and had only enough strength left to attend the board meet- ing. Here I learned that the luncheons are to be held on the second Thursday of each month instead of the Tuesday. This will give everyone more time to enjoy their meal and any entertainment that may be on hand. What happened on Friday you ask? I was plum done out. Must be getting old. The membership drive and the Open House week saw 29 new members sign up. That is good news. The more the merrier. Volleyball is a Go. It will be held on Tuesday evenings at Harrison Public School from 6:30-8 p.m. It is non-competitive, only fun and open to anyone 55+. An all day Art Class is being offered at the Centre Lack of volunteers may result in seniors program loss on Friday, October 19. William Band, a local watercolourist will be instructing the class. Cost for the day is $25. Register soon as space is limited. A fashion show and sale of Weekender Clothing will be held on Monday, October 1st at 1 p.m. Cost is $2. About 65 people turned out to hear John Daley explain the referendum ques- tion we will be asked to vote on in the October Election. If you were not able to attend, I hope you can get one of the pamphlets that have been put out explaining how the Mixed Member Proportional electoral system for Ontario will work. I find it strange that, in our Seniors Centre, with a membership of approxi- mately 800 members we cannot get enough volunteers to help out with vari- ous duties. It seems to have come to a point that, without the volunteers some programs may have to be dropped. Can you spare an hour or so, perhaps on the reception desk, in the kitchen, on a lunch team, with Bingo, or offer your service in some other area? Let Kristen or Sherry know, before it is too late.
