The Library Board will use the extra time to continue to work with stakeholders to resolve design chal- lenges, upgrade existing furniture and equipment destined for the new branch and explore options for a temporary location during the con- struction phase, according to a statement released last week. Residents are being encouraged to share their questions and concerns with Jay Jackson, chair of the board, by dropping off letters at the both branches of the library or by e-mail- ing Library Director Jane Diamanti at diamantij@hhpl.on.ca Concerned about the lack of a timeframe attached to the council hold on the project, the Board will seek clarification with the Town so they can begin planning around either a short or long-term deferral. The Library Board also intends to review the implications for the pro- ject should the delay exceed one year, including a potential escalation of costs, the statement said. The Library Board is concerned that the Georgetown branch cannot continue to serve this community effectively without the much needed space. Given widely used guidelines for public libraries and the current population of the Georgetown branch service area, the building should be more than twice the size. The Town and Board are waiting on the tenders for the two George- town fire stations, and as well as Ministry of Environment decisions on water capacity improvement pro- jects in Halton Hills, before a final decision is made on the library expansion project. In the meantime, depending on the results of the fire station tenders, the Town may extend some money to the Board for some immediate short-term improve- ments. The fire station tender results wont be known until sometime this fall. CYNTHIA GAMBLE Staff Writer Library seeks public comment on design plans
