The event, which aids the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides, will start at 1 p.m. at the Lions Hall (42 Mill St.). All ages and fitness levels are welcome to attend the event with or without a dog. We look forward to this healthy, pet-friendly, family Walk every year and its really heart-warm- ing to see support from people in and around our community, says Gord Wallen, organizer of the Georgetown Walk. Lions Foundation of Canada created the Walk to support its mandate to help Canadians with disabilities achieve or maintain a safe and inde- pendent lifestyle by providing them with a Dog Guide from one of its three programs. Looking to achieve safety, mobility, and inde- pendence, clients come from across the country to train with a Dog Guide at the Foundations school in Oakville. Georgetown resident Peter McKeown is a graduate of the Canine Vision Dog Guide program. McKeowns dog guide Amigo goes everywhere with him. Amigo helps him comfortably navigate situations and places like streets, stairs, escala- tors, and other obstacles. Its great having the security of knowing he is there for me, said McKeown. Currently more than 200 puppies and all dog guides in training are fed food donated by Nestle Purina.
