Cigarettes are very addictive, very expensive and very unpleasant for those around you. If you do smoke and have thought about quitting, prove to yourself you can do it. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication, but you can live smoke-free if you try. Cool or Clueless? Is there really any question? Independent & Free Press, Wednesday, October 3, 2007 17 After two runner-up finishes at elite-level high school senior boys volleyball tourna- ments in the past month, the Georgetown Rebels found the third time to be the charm in Toronto last Friday. The Rebels, who are 4-0 in the Halton Secondary School Athletic Association Volpe Division standings, needed a third-and-decid- ing set win of 15-10 over Donald A. Wilson Secondary School of Whitby to claim the championship at the Seneca Sting Invitational late last week. Those same two teams had met in the pre- liminary round of the tournament and split a pair of games, but other than that the Rebels swept through the competition, including a straight-set win over R.S. McLaughlin of Oshawa in the semifinals. In the final, Georgetowns seniors again took control from the start, winning game one 25-19 before dropping the next set 14-25, leading to an intense tiebreaker. The guys have had a tough time with the consistency this year, said GDHS head coach Kyle Stewart. Game one is generally tight vol- leyball with strong communication, but game two begins with a quiet team that comes off the bench flat something that will need to be cor- rected if this team hopes to reach its potential. Ricky Davids was named tourney MVP, while setter Matt Barker made the all-star squad for his efforts in the championship match. Aaron Hnatiw was the Rebels top serv- er on the day. Elsewhere in HSSAA action, the Actons junior boys came back after dropping the first game 25-14 to beat Milton 25-22, 15-10 last week for their first victory of the season. Christ the Kings senior boys were 3-0 in the Volpe Divison heading into Tuesdays match at Oakvilles White Oaks. Football Georgetown and rival Christ the King are set for a rematch of last years HSSAA Division 2 senior boys title game this Thursday as the Rebels host the Jaguars starting at 3:30 p.m. Both teams are 1-1 in 2007 and were throt- tled by Burlingtons best last Friday, as the Jags lost at home to Nelson 31-7 and the Rebels were beaten 37-7 at Notre Dame. David Juszczyk had the lone touchdown for CtK, while Dan Kearns accounted for GDHSs major score. Georgetowns Cedarvale Park was a beehive of activity on Thursday as close to 500 8-10 year- olds participated in the annual Optimist Club cross-country races, drawing nine Halton Hills elementary schools. Following are the top three finishers from each of Thursdays races on the 5-km Cedarvale course: 8-year-old Girls 1.Kayla Hutchinson, Joseph Gibbons; 2.Breann Zilkey, Joseph Gibbons; 3.Kayla Higgins, Pineview 8-year-old Boys 1.Liam Osborne, Harrison; 2.LJ Strachan, Limehouse; 3.Danny Saulnier, Joseph Gibbons 9-year-old Girls 1.Hannah Scott, Silver Creek; 2.Mackenzie Cameron, St. Catherine; 3.Macey Auger, Silver Creek 9-year-old Boys 1.Josh Cartwright, Glen Williams; 2.Sam Gates, Pineview; 3.Ryan Childs, Joseph Gibbons 10-year-old Girls 1.Grace Watson, George Kennedy; 2.Anja Vesterback, Silver Creek; 3.Lauren Rock, George Kennedy 10-year-old Boys 1.Matthew Kneel, Joseph Gibbons; 2.Shane Brockbank, Glen Williams; 3.Brendan Stevenson, St. Brigid Third time lucky for Rebels Optimist Club cross-country meet wraps up
