Arnott said he was very pleased Tory is allowing a free vote. It gives us as MPPs, if we are re-elected, an opportunity to consult with our constituents on the issue, said Arnott. Arnott said he is a supporter of the public education sys- tem and of funding to the Catholic system, but in an inter- view with this newspaper yesterday refused to say whether or not he personally supports the controversial $400 mil- lion scheme to fund faith-based schools. I have listened to the people of Wellington-Halton Hills who have questions and concerns about Mr. Torys propos- al to fund faith-based schools. For the past six weeks I have explained his idea, while at the same time spoken in sup- port of our existing publicly-funded system, he said in a press release issued Monday. Arnott said he would consult extensively with the public if a bill on extending faith based school funding were intro- duced. I would want to hold public meetings in our riding to determine how my constituents would expect me to vote. I would want to take an Internet poll on my Web site, and also do a mail survey if time permitted, said Arnott. He said he, would listen to everyone, apply my own experience and judgment, and only then make my decision as to how I would vote on such a bill. Over the past 17 years Arnott said hes always welcomed the advice of his constituents before representing them in the legislature. I could not ignore the wishes of the vast majority of my constituents. With files from Torstar News Service Arnott pleased Tory agrees to vote on faith-based school funding issue Halton Hills firefighters were called to a Sixth Line home Thursday evening (7:30 p.m.) for a garden tractor fire. A short in the wiring to the headlights was the cause. Damage is estimated at $100. Fire crews responded to a smoke alarm activation at a Queen St., Georgetown apartment building Friday at about 3:30 p.m. When they arrived they found a smoke alarm sounding in one of the apartments and could smell something burning. Firefighters forced their way into the apartment and found an unattended candle burning next to some com- bustible items. Damage was minimal. Crews respond to minor fires
