Check, a Grade 12 student, has been a blocking and offensive force in the middle hit- ters position for the Bearcat senior boys volleyball squad, which is 4-4 on the year. Evans plays wing for Actons sen- ior girls basketball team and contributed important points in recent victories over EC Drury and Kings Christian. Georgetown District High School Athletes of the Week are Robert Marleau and Ben Salisbury. A Grade 12 left guard for the Rebels senior football side, Marleau pro- vided solid blocking in Georgetowns 13-7 victory against TA Blakelock last week. Salisbury, a power hitter for the GDHS junior boys volleyball Rebels, has helped the team to a 4-2 record so far. Christ the King Athletes of the Week are Lauren Facchin and Chris King. Facchin is a defensive specialist on the hoops court for the senior Jaguars, making eight steals in a 45-20 win over Milton. Grade 10 student King has been a standout at both cornerback and as the kicker for CtKs junior boys football team, which moved into a first-place tie with Georgetown in the Tier II division after downing the Rebels 27-7 this week. Ten-year-old Bethany Rees deliv- ered a personal-best performance by finishing eighth in a flight of 15 skaters in the juvenile category at the recent Hamilton Fall Festival and also posted a top-10 result at the Summer Sizzle event at the Research In Motion facility in Waterloo. Rees will also skate in the Central Ontario Section competition next month in Midland. Another GSC member, 11-year-old Madeleine Commisso, also skated at the Hamilton Fall Festival, placing 12th in the juvenile division. She also competed at Barrie Oktoberfest last weekend. As well, retired local club member Laura Malatesta has made the cut for the University of Western Ontarios varsity skating team in two disciplines, Senior Silver Freeskate and Senior Silver Freeskate Similar Pairs. The 18- year-old first-year law student will make her CIS debut Nov. 30 at Montreals McGill University. The Georgetown club is celebrating its 50th anniversary as a member of Skate Canada and among the many events scheduled are the annual Skate- a-Thon on Nov. 10.
