The Acton Legion kindly lent us a large pic- ture of all the men who served in the Second World War and were from Acton, plus some other memorabilia. I would personally like to thank Harold Smith for trusting me with his album and all the vets who dug through their pic- tures to find a photo of themselves in uniform. Everyone enjoyed the roast beef dinner, fol- lowed by pie, and Greg Ball won the 50/50. The door prizes were won by Jim Pearson, Marion Pearson, Real Tetreault, Marg Spear, Helen Fowler, Bonnie Ball, Beryl Timmins and Isabel Nicholls. The Royal City Academy of Irish Dance from Guelph, with their teacher Tara Tarwell, were a delight and everyone enjoyed the evening. The tickets for the annual Christmas dinner are on sale at the front desk. Only a limited amount can be sold, so get yours early . The bazaar committee is busy preparing for our bazaar tomorrow (Saturday) and we will have lots of delicious baking, gifts and crafts suitable for everyone, and a grannys attic will have some great treasures. Also there will be lots of draws including Santas sleigh full of goodies, our deli- cious tea with an assortment of sandwiches and homemade goodies and a refreshing cup of tea or coffee. A message from Jane, our program chair: she asks you to join Joe Lafontain at the Acton Seniors Centre on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 1:30 p.m. for a fun afternoon. Learn about no sugar-added chocolate, the health benefits of dark chocolate and the process of making chocolate. There will be a showing of what Deboras Chocolate has to offer for the Christmas season and of course, sam- ples! We are looking forward to seeing you. The carpet bowlers were happy to see 13 bowlers out last Monday. Dorothy Purkis Brown team beat Marg Neilsons Black team, 16-6, but they all had fun as usual. Everyone is busy buying cards, calendars and wrapping paper for Christmas. We have a great catalogue with all of these items listed at a good price. Its our newest fundraising idea and replaces the annual cheese sale. The next scrapbooking class will be on Nov. 26, at 6:45 p.m. and the next paper tole class on Thursday, Nov. 29 also at 6:45 p.m. Both are great ways of keeping those memories alive and those hands busy creating treasures for future generations. I was asked to mention the next Fresh Good Food Box delivery will be at Links2Care on Nov. 27 with pickup from 12:30-3 p.m. Bill Krever, president and CEO of the Don Mills Foundation for Seniors, was at the centre last week explaining the importance of a survey, Building Bridges to Tomorrow. This is a major project being conducted by the Older Adult Centre Association of Ontario with a grant from the Trillium Foundation to assess the future needs of people 55 and older in Ontario. It is expected to take three years to gather all the information. It will cover small towns, rural areas, isolated spots in Northern Ontario as well as the larger cities. If you are asked to fill out a survey please take the time to do so. Veterans dinner a rousing success JULIE CONROY Acton Seniors Centre
