8 Sports & Leisure, Friday, September 26, 2008 HILLSVIEW NEWS FROM THE SENIORS CENTRES Georgetown Seniors Centre: All welcome to Fall Fashion Show on Monday Fall has arrived and with it some decent weather at last. That thought brings me to a reminder of the Fall Fashion Show to be presented by Alia/Tan Jay Fashions of Milton. It is on Monday, September 29, beginning at 1:30 p.m. The cost of $5 includes a 50/50 draw ticket, door prizes, and light refreshments. Bring a friend. It is open to all ladies. Open House week was a success with lots of new members sign- ing up, a couple of new programs being introduced, and, you can tell by the picture in the paper, that some of us had enough courage to dress up in our 50s outfits for the barbecue on the Friday. The programs are underway including Tai Chi (Beginner and Intermediate), Qi Gong, Easy Does it Workout (Tuesday and Thursday) Still Sizzlin (Tuesday and Thursday), Stretch and Tone, Line Dancing, Square Dancing, Scottish Dancing, Belly Dancing (new), and Ballroom Line Dancing being offered Thursday evenings. There is still time to join any one of these. Call the Reception Desk at 905-877-6444 for further information. I would like to reiterate the importance of signing in each time you come into the Centre. Your signature is important to our grant. I think we are all making a good effort to do this. How was the movie on Friday afternoon? The next one will be Friday, October 31. This will be your opportunity to see The Bucket List. This is an excellent comedy. Even if you have seen it before, it is worth a second look. The first of the Bon Appetite luncheons is coming up on Wednesday, October 15. All lunches are $7 and have limited seating. Purchase your ticket early. Mingle and Chat takes place every Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. This is a good opportunity to meet other members. By the sound of the laughter coming out of that room, Id say they were having a pretty good time. Bid Euchre drop-in program is held every Monday afternoon beginning at 1 p.m. Euchre is played every Wednesday after- noon at 1 p.m. These are open to paid members. The first and third Tuesday of every month is Euchre night starting at 7 p.m. On the second and fourth Tuesday evening Bid Euchre is held. These evening programs are open to the public. You want to play Bingo? Then come to the Centre the first and third Monday of each month starting at 1 p.m. There is a good chance you could be lucky and take home some money. Open to members only. A last reminder to those planning to take the Art Workshop in acrylics to be given by Doug Purdon. You are to register by October 8. Class will be on Saturday, October 18 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Cost is $45 members, $50 non-members. Life is good at the Georgetown Seniors Centre! FLORENCE RIEHL Georgetown Seniors Centre The Geri Fashion Show had a different format this year, but 25 ladies enjoyed coming in to try on the clothes and see the latest fall and winter fashions. Quite a few members pur- chased outfits, so we look forward to seeing them in their new clothes at some of the functions at the Centre. I am planning to visit the St. Lawrence Market on Saturday, Oct. 25. There is a signup sheet for anyone interested. If there is enough interest we will leave the Centre at 9 a.m. and leave the market about 1-1:30 p.m. I know the last time some peo- ple took advantage of visiting Toronto and having lunch at one of the famous eating spots there. There is certainly a lot to see and do in Toronto. There is also a signup sheet for the Gals on the Go trip to Westfield Heritage Village. It will be on Saturday, Dec. 6 in the evening. I understand the village is decorated for Christmas and everyone is in costume. There is entertainment and a wagon ride but it will involve walking and might be quite cold. There is a small restaurant if you wish a hot drink or something to eat. If any members of the Georgetown Centre would like to join us on any of the Gals on the Go trips, give us a call at the Centre, 519-853-5951. Line dancing is on a Monday morning and there is still room for more dancers. Its a great inexpensive way of getting exercise as well as enjoying the music. If you are interested drop in on a Monday morning before 11:30 a.m. You should wear flat shoes suitable for dancing. Dont forget the October 20th dinner. The theme is Halloween, so there will be prizes for the best costumes. Tickets will be on sale shortly. The people that attended the Wednesday evening euchre had a great time, but there is still lots of room and a warm welcome for more players. The next game is on Wednesday, Oct. 15, 7 p.m. The winners last Wednesday were lone hand Eileen Wedge, ladies high Mae Milton and Marg Haring, high man Henry Wedge and Rose had the low. If anyone is interested in playing bridge please make sure you sign up. There are a few names down already. Once Wendy finds out how many members are interested in playing she will try and set up a day that is suitable for the majority. Eight players enjoyed the carpet bowling last Monday after- noon. Shirley Kruk was captain of the Brown team and her team beat the Black team, 16-9. Rose Luoma was captain of the Black team. It was the first time for Rose, Catherine Barrett and Sheila Jefferies had played and the bowlers hope to see them back each Monday afternoon. On a sad note I see George Hargraves passed away last week. George was a longtime member of the Centre and although he wasnt active at the Centre, he certainly was well known around town. He picked up the meals from Allendale for the Meals on Wheels and helped out at the Trunk Sale. I remember him and his wife at different functions in town when they were members of the St. John Ambulance. Our sin- cere condolences to his family.
