Kyle Pearson, 17, and 10-year-old Troy Bishop chalked up several victories during the 2008 Ontario Cup schedule to accu- mulate enough points for their titles. Pearson, of Georgetown, placed first at the Ontario Cycling Association BMX championships in Milton in each of the junior elite and junior elite cruiser cate- gories, while also emerging with gold medals in the 16-18 boys division and the team relay at the Ontario Summer Games at Kingston. The Christ the King student earned a bronze medal at the national champi- onships in the junior elite cruiser finals held in Abbotsford, B.C. back in May. Bishop, a Limehouse resident, has only been racing competitively for five years, yet hes moved up from the novice level to intermediate, recording first-place finishes in all eight races he entered in the recent Ontario Cup series events held at the Track 2000 facility in Milton. Pearson and Bishop secured the 2008 overall titles for their respective divisions in the provincial points series at the Ontario Cup championships at Saugeen Shores last month. Pearson won both the Cruiser & 20 and Jr. Elite classes and Bishop is now the Ontario champ among the 10-year-old Intermediate riders. Six-year-old Romyk Soltys of Acton also made his way to the podium, finish- ing third in the Ontario Cup points stand- ings for the novice category. Other Halton Hills competitors who have earned a provincial ranking include: Vic Placido (1st, expert); Greg Bidwell (2nd, elite); Grant Colwell (5th, 7 novice); Ryan Colwell (2nd, 30-34 cruiser); Nick McKay (2nd, 13 intermediate). On Monday in Vaughan, the visitors thoroughly outplayed the Vipers, peppering 49 shots at netminder Kori Coelho before finally winning in the shootout.
