Both are members of the Bearcats cross country team, and competed at the Abby Park meet, held at Eobicoke Centennial Stadium. Kovacevic ran in the midget division, finishing third of 100. Merritt, who ran in a very competitive junior division, was chosen for her strong, consistent running through the season. Georgetown District High School Athletes of the Week are Kyle Speers and Tory McCracken. Speers, a fullback with the Rebels junior football team, was selected for his strong rushing in a 27-21 win over Iroquois Ridge. McCracken, a member of the senior girls basketball team, was cited for her strong game against Oakville Trafalgar. Christ the King Catholic High School Athletes of the Week are Ginny Switzer and Tyler Fram. Switzer, a forward on the Jaguars field hockey team, was selected for her team efforts in a 0-0 tie against Robert Bateman High School. Organized by local volunteers, its aim is to provide festive energy-efficient lighting and promote Halton Hills as a caring community. The committee will have a display booth at the Georgetown Farmers Market tomorrow (Saturday), 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to promote the new organization and to sell LED bulbs for the Tree of Hope located in Dominion Gardens. A precentage of the proceeds will go to the Georgetown Hospital Foundation. Decorating the Tree of Hope in Dominion Gardens are Light Up The Hills organizers, from left, Diane Penrice, Santa Claus, Moira Robinson, Gerry Kentner and Dave Kentner.
