Submitted photo Saturday is Apple Day Members of The Lorne Scots (Peel, Dufferin and Halton Regiment) recently gathered in a formal ceremony for the change of Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) at the Colonel John Roaf Barber Armoury in Georgetown. Supporters and family members watched the official handover from former RSM, Chief Warrant Officer (CWO) Steve Hurst CD to CWO Derek Murphy CD as he was appointed to the high profile position. Murphys pride was evident as he accept- ed his new appointment. I feel good, he said. Its an honour and a privilege and it only occurs once a career. As RSM, CWO Murphys duties will include working closely with the Commanding Officer (CO), Lieutenant- Colonel Tim Orange, to ensure his vision is passed onto the troops and the regiment functions correctly. According to Orange, the change of RSM is an important event. It marks the handover of a critical appointment within the Regimental Command Team and shows respect and thanks to the outgoing RSM and a show of support to the incoming RSM. As for Hurst, he will miss the troops of The Lorne Scots but is moving to the more senior position of Brigade Sergeant Major which oversees all 12 units in 32 Canadian Brigade Group. There are 230 members of The Lorne Scots (Peel, Dufferin & Halton Regiment), an Army Reserve Unit of Canadian soldiers.
