Acton/Georgetown, Friday, October 24, 2008 7 Its been a bit of a flashback to last summers makeover project in downtown Georgetown over the past few days as the median and sidewalk planters on that stretch of Main St. were dug up and plants removed. Gord Troughton, the Town of Halton Hills Manager of Design and Construction, said the Town had to make a claim on the warranty of the work done there by Aecon Construction last year after about 50 per cent of the bushes and plants put in by the company didnt survive. The Town determined the problem was the mostly clay soil that was put in the planters so it had to call the contrac- tor back to replace the soil and plants, at no expense to the Town. The company has removed the soil, replaced it with topsoil, and the Town is awaiting testing to ensure its the right material for the plants to thrive in. Troughton said if the test results are favourable, the hope is to have the plant- ings replaced and the project completed by next week. The cost for the re-do to the contrac- tor is about $25,000, Troughton esti- mates.
