Alex Jarvis of the Georgetown Rebels was runner-up in the junior girls race, finishing six seconds off the lead in a time of 15:54. The top three individual finish- ers, as well as the first- and second-place teams from the GHAC meet, which was held at the Christie Conservation Area on Thursday in Dundas, qualified for this Saturdays OFSAA championships. Acton District High School will send two athletes to the provincials, including Jade Kovacevic, who placed third in the midget girls category. Cameron Shortt fin- ished ninth in the senior boys event and qualified for OFSAA as overall GHAC team champion Notre Dame of Burlington accounted for five runners in the top eight. Drury in Milton last week. The Rebels met up with Abbey Park in the final and neither team could score through regulation play and then in sud- den death overtime, before Haley Besworth netted the winner for GDHS in the penalty shootout. Camille Pemberton was named tourney MVP for her standout defensive efforts. Georgetown won its opening game 1-0 over Bishop Reding on a goal by Saveena Loch, then defeated E.C. Drury 2-1 as Kaitlyn Gillis and Loch supplied the scor- ing. Kendra Blackbourn and Natalie Meek tallied for the senior Rebels against Abbey Park in the final round-robin game to set up a rematch in the title game. As well, two of Georgetowns players, goalkeeper Jasmine Olah and the mid- fielder Meek, were selected to play for the Richardson Division side that will take on the Volpe-Poliziani conference in the Halton senior all-star game on Monday in Milton. Football A 12-0 win over host St. Thomas Aquinas on Friday improved the record of Christ the Kings seniors to 6-0 in Halton league play, setting up a showdown for the Jaguars with the Nelson Lords for sec- ond place in the Division One standings later this week. David Green had CtKs lone touch- down Friday, with kicker Chris King adding a field goal and three single points. The undefeated senior Jags will take on 5-1 Nelson in Burlington on Friday with home-field advantage in the Halton Division One semifinals at stake in the final regular season game for both teams. Notre Dame is also 6-0 on the year. The host Bearcats trailed 19-18 with two minutes to go but dropped in seven unanswered points to earn their third win of the season and improve their chances of advancing in the upcoming single-A playdowns. Kalsey Smith led Acton in scoring with 11 points. Photo by Eamonn Maher A 13-game winning streak apparently doesnt earn much breathing space in the tightly contested MacKinnon Division as the Georgetown Raiders found out after a couple of weekend losses. The 14-3-1 Raiders had been the hottest team in the Ontario Junior Hockey League until losing at home 5-3 Saturday night to the Buffalo Jr. Sabres, followed by Georgetowns first road defeat of the sea- son, a 4-3 overtime decision Sunday against the Streetsville Derbys. The loss to the hard-charging Jr. Sabres, coached by former NHLer Grant Ledyard, was the first for the Raiders since the opening week of the regular season and dropped their home record to 4-3-0. And if not for an equalizing goal by leading point-getter Andrew Marcoux with just three sec- onds left in the third period versus the Derbys Sunday evening, Georgetown would have come up pointless from the weekend games. As it stands, coach and GM James Richmonds squad is just three points ahead of Oakville and Burlington and both division rivals have played fewer games. Its going to be one of those things thats going to happen in a long season where I thought we ran into a couple of goalies who basically stole the show, said Richmond. We had a good run going there and all you can do is start another one. There was a team meeting (Monday night) to talk about ways to minimize this little bump High school roundup Three local runners headed to OFSAA Raiders finally hit a bump in the road EAMONN MAHER Staff Writer See RAIDERS, pg. 16 JAMES RICHMOND
