the family circle Three hundred concerned parents and young people turned out to a meeting on drug education Monday evening at the Robert Little School The emotional concern of the group was evident and yet we found ourselves turning off the emotions and turning on the mind Facts are the first effective and the only creative way to deal with any problem or suspicion of drug abuse We have to know what we are talking about and be informed as to the nature and consequence of experimenting with drugs This Is the immediate need to have a well executed learning situation take place and this means getting beyond the emotions hangups The Addiction Research Foundation deal with this problem daily By a system of trial and error learning by experience it has become evident to the foundation that this can only be done in a controlled and small group situation Last evening did not lend itself to this land of program With the number of resource people we have in this community a group of adults is as many as this program can handle The task last evening was to narrow the immediate concern from to sixty in order to carry out a learning rather than a spectator program Once this program is completed we will have Acton 60 persons to be resource people who turn will be able to benefit the rest of the community a creative and knowledgeable way Emotions can so easily block the way of communication The best way to overcome this problem to be secure in our knowledge about the facts So often young people know more about the facts concerning drugs than do the parents Once we have digested the facts then in a calm yet concerned way we have to deal with the fecmgs and causes which lead a person to drug abuse There are alternatives to drugs We can live a creative and useful life without drugs What we need is to explore this fact In an honest way A beginning has been made In Acton To educate and to inform a whole community is an onerous and long term task It will begin with sixty Then it will spread beyond this group into the community in countless different ways The future holds great expectations for a community that has indicated so much concern Talented group in
